I got this poem published in the school newspaper, for those that didn’t get to see it, here it is.<\/p>\n
\n
He plays the piano
\nRocking back and forth
\nCradling each note
\nGiving life
\nBut holding onto each
\nFor just a single moment
\nBefore it is released
\nSent out into the cold world
\nTo die or survive
\nIt all lay in fate\u2019s hands
\nNot his
\nNot anymore
\nThe artist, the musician
\nWith starving eyes
\nAnd frantic fingers
\nHe swayed
\nWith his head held back
\nListening to the birth
\nOf each note
\nAs it sprung forth
\nFrom nothingness
\nBut the barren plane of his soul
\nHe breathed life
\nInto each ivory key
\nAs his fingers danced
\nPlaying a sad
\nYet beautiful song
\nThe song of the sirens
\nSet out at sea
\nThe bewitching words
\nOf a long forgotten curse
\nThe notes passed through
\nHis ragged body
\nEach throb of his veins
\nPushed tired blood and music
\nThat begged for life
\nAnd took everything
\nFrom it\u2019s living master
\nA master who would die
\nFor his masterpiece
\nWith bleeding fingers
\nPressed against bone keys
\nEach print left
\nOn the piano
\nLeft it\u2019s bloodied print
\nOn his haunted soul
\nBut when the music
\nHas finally left
\nHe has nothing
\nIs nothing
\nBut a starving artist
\nDeprived of paint
\nHe has nothing left
\nHe gave it all up
\nFor his sacred art
\nHis Bible of notes
\nGave his heart and soul
\nAnd all else he could give
\nBut his ears to listen
\nAnd his fingers to play
\nAs he cradled each new life
