Great streets of silence
\nHave filled the network of my life
\nIn times of necessity
\nSilence overtakes my faint heart
\nSwallowing whole
\nThe words so desperately
\nFloating up in bubbles
\nThat quiver in their fragile state<\/p>\n
Whenever words are needed
\nThey have failed me
\nThe power of that word
\nFalling swiftly, heavily
\nFrom an uncouth mouth
\nCan change the world
\nIn a movement too fast
\nFor the eye to register<\/p>\n
The pregnant silence
\nGrows between you and I
\nLike a deep festering wound
\nSomething that will
\nLeave a big nasty scar
\nFor the whole world
\nTo bear witness to
\nIn horror and disgust<\/p>\n
Like a canary in a cage
\nMy words are sealed away
\nWith a lock and key
\nFar too advanced
\nFor such a petty thief as I
\nThe mystery of this labyrinth
\nIs too complex for me
\nSo I will suffer
\nIn my silence alone<\/p>\n
An ocean’s expanse
\nStretches far and long
\nAbove, between, and below
\nMy feet that stand
\nOn ground built only
\nFrom the promise of words
\nYet to surface and be heard
\nIn the deep eddies of the water<\/p>\n
Truth is that words
\nAre a terror, a horror
\nAll in themselves
\nTheir own maze of nothing
\nLeading to nowhere
\nSo silence is safety
\nFrom a world full of words
\nThat I do just fine without<\/p>\n
Where every word
\nIs a potential knife
\nAwaiting a new victim
\nA new heart to ruin
\nRip open and bear forth
\nThe fruit of an innocent
\nOf ignorance in truth
\nAnd within this deadly flower
\nLies life\u2019s only truth
\nWe are all monsters<\/p>\n
