\nArms full of grocery bags
\nIn front of a store
\nShe doesn\u2019t move
\nShe is frozen
\nThose that pass her
\nLook to try and see
\nWhat her far away stare
\nIs focused upon
\nWhat horror she is witnessing
\nBut what they don\u2019t see
\nIs that it isn\u2019t
\nAn image her stricken eyes
\nHave fallen upon
\nBut the absence of it
\nAlone the mother stands
\nHer child is nowhere
\nGone from sight
\nDisappeared into a world
\nBeyond the safety of a mother\u2019s touch
\nWhere there is no play
\nOnly a harsh reality
\nOf survival and death
\nShe wonders
\nHow could this happen
\nWhat did I do
\nTo deserve this punishment
\nThe statue begins
\nTo regain life
\nAs a scream burst forth
\nFrom petrified lungs
\nDying for release
\nThe bags fall
\nAs her arms reach out
\nFor something that
\nIs no longer there
\nHer child is gone
\nIn just a blink of an eye
\nShe has vanished
\nThe mother screams
\nOver and over again
\nFor her child
\nBut there is no answer
\nJust the stares of the passersby
\nShe falls to her knees
\nHer child\u2019s favorite foods
\nLay strewn about
\nThe mother of a missing child
\nShe hears nothing
\nSees nothing
\nBut her child
\nBefore she was gone
\nRemembering that last look
\nThe last moment before
\nDestiny was changed
\nTaking her baby away from her
\nSo she sits on her knees
\nHer arms held out to nothing
\nWith her child\u2019s favorite foods
\nBut no child
\nNo one stops to help
\nBecause they don\u2019t understand
\nWhat it means to lose
\nA part of them
\nBut now she does
\nThe wailing statue
\nWaiting with empty arms
\nAnd a horrible plea
\nFor a missing child to come back
