\nLike whispered secrets sent from window to window
\nBy children without bed times or nightlights to guide them
\nThey cling to that string and use it to weave a life
\nWith or without finding the end of that thread
\nThe thread that pulls and strains
\nAs time places the weight of distance
\nOn the iron shoulders of eternity
\nStrumming the string of vitality
\nFeeling the shiver before the break
\nThe untwining of the thread
\nRight before it unravels
\nThat last grasping second as time slows
\nBefore there is the
\nBreak
\nCan you hear the laughter drifting away
\nOn the ends of a broken string
\nIt echoes out and fades
\nNever to reach the end of that line
\nThat was strung too tight
\nBut never tight enough to hold the other
\nAnchored at the end
\nWhere two souls would become one
\nLike a violin strung too tight
\nThe wires scream and grind until
\nThe breaking point
\nAnd the twang of a string destroyed by the twisting of time
\nThe loss of sound with a deafening silence
\nBrought about by the abundance of sound
\nAt the end of an unraveling thread
\nThat carried so many secrets
\nSo many laughs on sunny days
\nThe sounds of a soul crying for the other
\nWill never find their way
\nLeft alone now in the world
\nKnowing no one is on the other end of that string
\nNo one to listen or care
\nJust the silence
