I climb the stairs
\nAs doors close with a hiss behind
\nThousands of eyes watching
\nWalking down death row
\nCalmly
\nI sit down in a chair
\nImages rush past me
\nPeople walking away forever
\nNever aware of me watching
\nSilently
\nI put my hand against glass
\nCold and warm from other days
\nEverything rocks back and worth
\nPeople whisper, cry, laugh
\nQuietly
\nI look down beside me
\nA little girl sits there
\nLollipop to big for her small mouth
\nShe licks relentlessly at it
\nNoisily
\nI hear everything at that moment
\nTwo rows up a baby howls, hungry
\nThree rows back a man coughs, dying
\nAcross the isle a man and woman fight
\nAngrily
\nI see everything at that moment
\nFive rows back a woman with a black eye
\nFour rows ahead a man without an arm
\nAcross and seven rows back a blind man sighs
\nSadly
\nI sigh too and stare at my hands
\n\u201cMy mom says it is rude to stare at people\u201d
\nThe little girl looks up at me questioning
\n\u201cWhy do you stare at them\u201d she asks
\nCuriously
\nI speak to this girl so much younger than me
\n\u201cBecause there is so much to see\u201d I reply
\n\u201cI see nothing\u201d she whines
\n\u201cLook very closely and you see everything\u201d
\n\u201cEveryone tells a story, but your mother is right\u201d

\nI listen to her as I do everyone

\nShe stares blankly at her lollipop and says \u201cNo\u201d
\n\u201cMy mom gave it to me before she died\u201d
\nSilence bustling
\nPeople get up and leave the bus
\nShe stands alone and waves to me
\nStill sucking \u201cGoodbye\u201d she says
