Yellowstone: Feeding Time 2

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

This time around we watched an otter hunting in a river. It was at the same place where we hadĀ spotted the otter trio except at the first otter lodge. The otter was bobbing up and down in the water trying to get some food.

There was a whole line of photographers trying to get good pictures of it,I was just one of about ten trying to score a shot. I got to talk with a man who took photography trips to Africa. He had photographed, lions, elephants and much more. It was amazing to listen to his adventures while we waited for the otter to catch something.

The funniest part is that whenever the otter would pop up there would be a storm of camera clicks. All you could hear was people frantically pushing the button to take a photo, desperately trying to catch something interesting.

He was teasing us with his presence. He would go under and swim to one end of the river. Wait there until we all picked up our gear and walked over. As soon as we got there he would swim back upstream. We chased him around for quite some time.

We finally got our wish when the little guy popped out of the water with a Cutthroat Trout in his mouth. The whole energy fo the area was abuzz as people tried to get good pictures of it.

He was just chomping away on this fish. He was really enjoying it, for most of the time he had his eyes closed as he was eating. He, unlike the coyote, didn’t play with it, he chewed on it for a tiny bit, then swallowed it.

He almost swallowed the fish whole. It was pretty amazing. As soon as he was done, he went back to his fishing and swimming. He just slinked away in search for his next meal.

Raging Waters

Friday, September 4th, 2009

P1040538 I found this photo of me, my best friends and my cousin at Raging Waters. Fun stuff, fun stuff. Shout out to my best friends!!

With that said, I have to say something.

WHAT IS UP WITH THE BOTTOMS OF THEIR POOLS?

I know you know what I am talking about. They must use some sort of special cement in their pools that no matter how careful you are, will cut you some time during your adventures. Whether it is in the lazy river, or the wave pool, you will at some point hit your toe, or scrape your knees along the bottom and you will be cut to pieces.

That stuff hurts like hell!! It somehow hurts more than normal cuts and it stays that way for at least a week. It is horrible, almost like rug burn but worse. There is no way to avoid this inconvenience either. It isn’t a question whether you will get cut, because you will. I love Raging Waters, but that stuff sucks.

Not to mention that every time you go there you get sunburned. I don’t have particularly fair skin and I put lots of sunscreen on, but it doesn’t help at all. I can even reapply, but I always get burned.

Just a side note: SHOUT OUT FOR TIMOTHY THE LIFEGUARD DUMMY

Anyway, yet again I digress. My favorite part out of everything at Raging Waters is the wave pool. Not because it is super fun for the two seconds of waves that usually end before you can actually reach the pool. No, I like it because every time that buzzer goes off, the place turns into a mosh pit. Everyone starts yelling and hollering like Jesus just jumped into the pool. I don’t understand why, but it happens every time it goes off. I don’t even have to go in the water, I can sit down and just watch laughing. Try it, very funny.

Swimming in a Glacier River

When I was in Glacier National Park, I decided something. I was going to do something that I never would have even thought about doing. I was going to go swimming in a glacier run off river.

I believe that it is crucial that at some point, at least once in someones life, to do something that seems not only idiotic but insane. This isn’t so crazy to some people but to me it means a lot. I am highly afraid of deep water not to mention the temperature of the river. I thought Lake Superior was cold, boy was I wrong.

Anyway, I decided out of the blue as we were driving through, that I was going to go swimming. So we pulled over, I threw on some shorts, and went down to the river. This water was so clean and beautiful, I was really exicted. Once my toes where in the water, that was another story. It was so cold.

After telling this to one of my friends who aptly replied, Well duh, it was a GLACIER RIVER! I realized that everyone needs to do something to test themselves every once in a while. I go tubing and fall off on purpose in deep water, I jump of piers into deep water, or I just go swimming. All in the name of conquering fear.

My recommendation, try it some time. It is actually a lot of fun.
