Mission of Mercy

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

The robins came in the rain
To take the worms away.
Mother told me they were drowning
And the birds lent their wings
For a rescue mission
That taught the creatures
Of the earth, what the sky
Felt like beyond just a dream.
That the robins whisked them away
From mud puddles deeper
Than the well I watch Father dig
That seemed to stretch from earth
Back to sky all over again.
Mother told me worms couldn’t swim
Because their arms never grew right.
Kind of like how I never grew right.
Will the robins save me
When the waters come too high?
Of course they will honey,
And they will teach you to fly.

But Mother lied.
I watch the robin’s beak pierce
The earth like a kraken’s claw
Dividing land from sea
But the way was not clear
And the sojourners never made it through.
The worms surface from the earth
Hoping to find air that wasn’t drowning
In water, but the water was rising fast
Into a flood that would sweep them away.
The jaws of hungry animals
Pried into the earth and wrenched
Their bodies from the softened ground
Like daisies fresh for picking
Even though they were ready,
They where ripped from their roots
Body, soul, and all to be devoured
It was no rescue mission but a massacre masked
In the form of a red breasted beast

I sat watching through fogged windows
And wondered, if these monsters with wings
Veiled their murder in missions of mercy
What would my rescuer be?

Creeper Photo: Mask

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

I couldn’t really tell what your float was about but the people on it with you were very interesting. Your mask was enchanting something utterly demonic about it and at the same time it was almost childish. It matched your tattoo very well on your arm. You seemed like a stoic protector over your float. Like a silent ghost set down there, you hardly moved, just stared forward with your mask unmoving. You captivated me, thanks for being there, and thanks for the mask.

Acheron

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

The waterfall of your heart
Is drowning me
Slowly but surely
When I think the surface is near
I find myself upside down
The mask you once wore
Is now attached to my face
When did it happen
Why didn’t I see
That you were slowly killing me
Your taint still won’t leave
Following me like a shadow
Just a step behind me
That single step
Seems to be getting closer every day
Leading me down a path
I saw but pleaded not to be
It seems my words
Meant nothing
But here I am again
Trying to escape
Your shadows tyranny
I can’t help but hate you
It isn’t your fault
I fell into your shadow
And couldn’t get out
The waterfall of your suffering
Only hid mine
Now I am suffering
While you are free
Drowning right in front of you
And you can’t see me
Through the screen of a waterfall
That never ceases
I reach out across the river Acheron
But can never really escape
You received a hand of help
Where is mine
I ask you
Where is mine
Or am I destined to forever lie
In Acheron’s wake
Drowning until you find me
In the shadow of destiny

Harlequin’s Lullaby

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Dark hands
Reach for you
Suffocating, drowning
But yet you see
There is nothing
I can do

Water rushing up
All around you
A dark embrace
Never letting go
Just another puppet
In a marionette show

Puppets dance
Jointed dolls twirl
Then fall
Broken limbs, empty eyes
A shattered face
A ruined disguise

Strings plucked
Dark hands stream
The chords of your soul
Any moment to break
To fall back to earth
Just the devil’s stake

Frowns pulled
Into fake smiles
Masks drift towards you
Just people turned puppets
Never ending nightmare
Nothing to do to stop this

Marionettes twirl you about
Just pathetic toys
For a dark twisted God
Torn from the world
Into this evil façade

Dark hands
Empty eyes, broken masks
Sway on stage
An empty abyss
A song rising
Can’t you hear it
Drifting on the wind

Puppets sing, scream
Do you hear
Their desperate cry
This my dear
Is the
Harlequin’s lullaby
